IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) A THREAT TO THE HUMAN SOCIETY?

Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) a threat to the human society? This question as popped up severally since the invention of Artificial Intelligence. It as disrupt the technological state of the economy. Having an inkling on what AI is, may give us an insight on if AI is a threat to human society or not.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. The term is frequently applied to the project of developing systems endowed with the intellectual processes characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience. In other words, artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using the rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions), and self-correction. Particular applications of AI include expert systems, speech recognition and machine vision.

So basically, robots can the work of 100 employees at a go, and 2 robots can do 200 to 300 tasks. To emphasized on this better, an American internet media giant company ( BuzzFeed ) laid off about 100 staffers. As if that’s not enough, Mashable, the leading media company also laid off about 50 staff recently. From this analysis, it’s clearly shown that these guys are gunning for Artificial Intelligence. And if other top giant companies follow suit, there will be more laying off of staff and personnel and thereby resulting an increase in unemployment in the society. It’s no doubt that Artificial Intelligence is one of the best inventions ever, as it enhances and facilitate task to be accomplish in little time. Having said this, should it disadvantage overpower its advantage? Should humans start worrying about AI. Is Artificial Intelligence a threat to human society?
